Rosemary's Baby, by Ira Levin
THIS BOOK. I've said it before, and I'll say it again- I love fucked up books. The weirder, the better. And THIS BOOK... well, it's out there. I'm sure many people have heard of Rosemary's Baby, it's a very popular movie from the 1960's. But if you don't know: It's about this woman, Rosemary, and... well... she somehow gets drugged and impregnated with the spawn of satan. That's all I'm gonna say. But if you're anything like me, that should peek your interest! hahaha :P
I've been reading A LOT lately, which makes me very happy, because I had been in a "reading drought" for MANY years. I used to read a book every single week, but then randomly something weird happened to me. I started reading so many books, but just felt they were... blah, and then would toss them aside; I couldn't finish a book for YEARS. The last reading spree I had was when I read the complete Dollanganger series in two weeks, and that was back in 2011!
But I've really been discovering some great reads lately! What's your favorite book that you've discovered recently? Let me know! *^_^*
Damn Im so busy with High school to read! What are some good books? I really need to catch up!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Fault in Our Stars, if you haven't read it
Deletehow about divergent, The Fault in our Stars, and Mrs. Peragines Home for Peculiar Children
DeleteHave you read The Book Theif? That and Enders Game are my favorites :)
ReplyDeleteThose are 2 of my faves too! It's nice to find someone else who's actually read enders game :)
DeleteHaha I jumped on board finally with the fault in our stars bc everyone was talking about how great it was. I am about half way through, but the be honest... I'm not as into it as I thought I would be.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! I was expecting to be blown away, but I felt very underwhelmed.
DeleteI just finished John Saul's "The Blackstone Chronicles." It was a six-book series, but they've compacted them into one large book. It's so good, and messed up. I definitely recommend it. The next book on my list is Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Both of them are asylum stories xD
ReplyDeleteI've just got done reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children! It's really good and the pictures add a nice creepy touch to it
DeleteMe too! You should read part 2 Hollow City
Deletenot sure if this is my type of book/movie but im kinda tempted to try it now! haha. also, thank you for putting in so much effort into the vlogs. im constantly impressed (and happy!!!) about how they go up daily. great way to end my night :)
ReplyDeletebtw: did you ever finish pokemon x/y? maybe you could do a blogpost on favorite video games/apps youve played. oh & tell us if you watch any animes recently! i adored ouran, which i believe you mentioned watching in a video once :))) have a good night!
You should read "The Fault In Our Stars" "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" "Thirteen Reasons Why" n.n
ReplyDeleteYay! The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of my all time favorite books. I really adore it. :)
DeleteHow was 13 reasons? I picked it up a few years ago and never got into it. It was also around my freshman year of college so I didnt have time to read it.
Deleteshe already read the fault in our stars
DeleteWhat is "The Fault In Our Stars" about???
DeleteI am reading a trilogy first book is called legend, pretty good. I also picked up the maze runner to read soon! Summer weather makes me wanna sit out and read!
ReplyDeleteKalel, you NEEEED to read Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk! It's the most twisted, fucked up yet so damn awesome book ever! .. you'll love it! haha :)
ReplyDeleteI think the movie is on Netflix and I keep debating on whether I should watch it or not. Is it worth watching and should I watch it with someone because I don't want to shit my pants lol :O
ReplyDeleteKalel, if you get the chance to reply I was wondering your opinion on the 'scariness/creepiness' factor of the book? I'm keen on reading it but I'm pretty pathetic when it comes to scariness hehe, nice blog post also! ^_^
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book right now is part of a series and its called the sisters Grimm and its about fairy tale characters and wierd things happen I don't know I'm wierd
ReplyDeleteOmg!! I read the first one... is the rest of them as good as the first??
DeleteAh I thought the original movie was really good! Did you like Carrie? I haven't seen the new movie but the old one was WOW.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the Delirium series! It's a dystopian romance, to say in the least..but I was really into it!
ReplyDeleteIf you like the Hunger Games, Divergent, or dystopian-society-type books, then I recommend this book that I'm currently reading called A Girl Called Fearless. It might interest you because you said in your vlog that you like documentaries about food. Well this book happens talks about meat in particular. I totally recommend it! :]
ReplyDelete-Reah.
Well hello dear reader friend ^^,
ReplyDeleteIt's always like that to me, I always cut myself completely from books and then when I see a friend reading, and I start again and find my passion for reading again!
All right, so, if you like as much spooky books to read, to give you the chills but yet with that quirkiness than i should definitely recommend "the great" Stephen King (with The Shinning), Coraline by Neil Gaiman, and finally some short stories from Edgar Allen Poe!
-Enjoy !
PS: I know those books are pretty famous but personally gave me the spooks! ^-^

ReplyDeleteI just finished The Fault in Our Stars, which was really good. And now I'm reading the orphans series by V.C. Andrews! Its such easy read :)
ReplyDeleteThe movie is really good
ReplyDeleteOne of the ones i'm reading now is called the uglies by Scott Westerfeld, it is a really good. I think you would like it.
ReplyDeleteGrabbing my keys and heading out the door Rosemary's baby seems like the book for me! I should start reading, thanks for the motivation Kalel :)
ReplyDeleteTHIRD!!! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AND IT MY ROLE MODEL!!! PLZ REPLY!!!
ReplyDeleteI recently started reading The Fault In Our Stars, because honestly let's face it there's no point in seeing a movie based on a book if you haven't even read the book, and so far it is just so perfect I love it <3
ReplyDeleteI just finish the divergent series it was so good I read over a thousand pages in a little under a week which is a new record for me! I defently recommended it.( try to read the books before you watch the movies though)
ReplyDeleteI just recently read "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell and it's really good!!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading The Book Thief and it's really good. The movie apparently is a good abduction so that's awesome. Also, Slaughterhouse-Five. It's kinda messed up and makes you think, so hopefully that peeks your interest because I feel like we have the same taste in books.
ReplyDeleteTotally gonna read this book now, we are the same, I haven't been reading much but I somehow just finished The Maze Runner...AMAZING book. Have you read it? If not I recommend it!
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It's without a doubt the most messed up book I've read recently but I absolutely loved it! I had to force myself to put it down.
ReplyDeleteI love the Matched, Crossed, and Reached series. They are amazing!!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and I am kinda like... Meh. I have read just over 100 pages and I do like the story line and I can understand why people like it so much but I am not sure. I remember you saying in one of your vlogs that when you read the book, that you weren't too sure about it but then you kept reading and you were CRYING because it was so intense! So yeah I will keep reading because i can't wait to see how good it gets! Btw love your blog so much and you and Anthony's vlogs xx
ReplyDeleteBlonde by Joyce Carol Oates
ReplyDeleteI'm currently studying for my Master degree in Literature, but still I had the same problem as you - I wasn't able to finish ONE book I read for fun. Couldn't imagine that would ever happen. The book that made me read again was The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. Just soo good!
I highly recommend you "The shadow of the wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón and "The princess bride" by William Goldman. They are definetely two of the best books I have ever read in my entire life. The first one is kind of mysterious and dark, but also extremely interesting. And the second one is just hilarious, even better than the film, which is already awesome. Hope you give them a try :)
ReplyDeleteI think you would be interested in "Gone Girl." It's a really good read and it is twisted. Maybe not Rosemary's Baby twisted but still lol
ReplyDeleteI think you would enjoy "Gone Girl." It's a good read and it's twisted. Maybe not Rosemary's Baby twisted but still lol
ReplyDeleteI just finished "The Fault in our Stars" and omg I'm obsessed. For anyone thinking of putting it down... itstarts slow but the story doess pick up and you won't be able to put it down!
ReplyDeleteI just finished the best romance trilogy of my life! It's by Maggie Stiefvater. The books are Shiver, Linger, and Forever.
ReplyDeleteIf you want more good books, I have a blog too! I review books that I've read :)
http://casualbookreview.blogspot.ca
I can completely relate to that "reading drought" thing and I thought that this kind of thing only happened to me :O!!! For a full year I just lost interest in reading and I never knew why; then my bff who's always finding new stories to read asked me what books I've been into and that made me realize how long it's been. To get back into my reading-groove I picked up "The Fault in Our Stars" just to see what all the hype was about and I was really pleased/heartbroken after finishing it lol. But a book that you may have heard of that I would definitely suggest is "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman. I can not even describe how wonderful this book was! And especially if you enjoy twisted stories you'll love it! A little taste of the plot includes heartache, deception, demons, "God-like" demons who disguise themselves around mortals so they can fucking EAT them, other mythical beasts, and such a cryptic tale that's too shocking to believe, just go find this book NOW. The book you're suggesting sounds so interesting, I'll have to pick up a copy the next time I'm at my local bookstore :D I hope you've been having a lovely day, and as always have a blessed evening :)
ReplyDelete~Shanice <3
Personally, I fell in love with John Green's The Fault In Our Stars, and as a result I NEEDED to buy his book Looking For Alaska. I didn't get as emotional as I did when reading FioS, however it was still quite moving. As many have said, I've heard from people that The Book Thief, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Divergent are very popular. It really just depends on what genre and style of writing grabs your interest

from Western Australia
P.S. I love everything you do Kalel. You're amazing and one of my major role models. Much love xx
I loooved "The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer" series. It is so riveting and gets all your emotions swell. I recommend you try reading. The author is Mitchell Hodkin.
ReplyDeleteI've been going through a little book phase too :) Right now I'm trying to find time to read Pride and Prejudice, Heaven is Here, Game of Thrones and the Help (thats a reread though). My favorite book is probably Jane Eyre- its so good! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been really into a book called silver, it like a zombie apocalypse but instead of flesh eating dead people, they're flesh eating, half human, half robot/metal and it affects animals too... It's pretty interesting and I REALLY want to read Rosemary's Baby now!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great book! Right now, I'm reading "If I Stay," and it's really good. I think you'd like it! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Chuck Palahniuk recommendation! Invisible Monsters was definitely my favorite by him (that i've read so far) but all of his books are pretty strange. He writes in a very conversational tone, which I always liked - makes for a good, quick read.
ReplyDeleteI also would recommend House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It's definitely mysterious and super creepy but also quite challenging to read because each page is different from the next (sometimes you have to read in a circle, other times upside-down, sometimes there's one word on a page, or none). Either way it's quite lengthy and difficult to read as mentioned above so it takes a bit more dedication of time but I definitely recommend it!
If you love fucked up like you say you do then you should read ANY of Chuck Palahniuk's books, especially haunted, damned, doomed, invisible monsters, lullaby, fight club, so many to choose and they are just amazing.
ReplyDeleteHey Kalel :3 I really am exited to read this book! I got it like two hours ago :D... I have to ask, where did you all of your furniture or where do you like to buy furniture? You have just so much gorgeous kawaii stuff that i want in my room :D :3
ReplyDeleteI am reading Splintered by A. G. Howard. It is about this girl named Alyssa who is the great great granddaughter of Alice Liddel. Because of Alice, the women in her family are cursed with insanity and she tries to break the curse by going to Wonderland. What I really like is how it sheds a different and weirder light on Wonderland.
ReplyDeleteThe last book series that I have read was The Shapeshifters The Kiesha'Ra of the den of shadows by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. It is amazing!! I found the first book ten years ago in high school and I always go back to read it every year!
ReplyDeleteThe Post Human trilogy by David Simpson. All three kinda have the same formula, but it's still an interesting read that makes you think about where we're headed with technology and the possible consequences of relying heavily on it.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm ready to pick up Specials by Scott Westerfeld, the series as a whole is really addicting to me. I've also heard The Merciless by Danielle Vega is really good from some different Booktubers. It doesn't come out until next month but it does have that gory/horror/satan sense to it, if you want to check it out? I'm actually looking forward to reading it as it sounds to be something I haven't read before. c:
ReplyDeleteTry reading The Westing Game. It's a really nice mystery but it is fast paced and very interesting! You can also try solving the mystery along with the characters. I read it a year ago and it is my favourite book EVER.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love your videos, they always make me feel better after a bad day. Thank you for everything(:
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
ReplyDeleteits so odd and so well written <3 it forces you to keep guessing what actually happened and has just that sneaky bit of romance
I've been reading a few of Rainbow Rowell's books recently and out of the two I've read, Eleanor and Park, and Fangirl, I can't decide which one I like better because both of them are really cute, funny, and freaking amazing. I also highly recommend the Consequences series by Aletha Romig. Never have I ever been so anxious and mind-fucked by a series before. Every book in that series is such sick brilliance. I might have to check out Rosemary's Baby now Kalel because I feel like we would like the same books. :)
ReplyDeleteHi kalel you should read the great gatsby it's the best and even though I love it I am doing my gcse on it and we'll even though I am in Britain you are the best and we'll you read as much as you like
ReplyDeleteYou go girl freind
Ps my name is Cameron my account got hacked
I just finished Orange is the New Black, it was so good!
ReplyDeleteI suggest everyone to read The Maze Runner series! It's so fascinating with the twists and turns the author does and i finished the entire series in under a month.
ReplyDeleteThere's this book it's not super creepy or messed up but it gave me the chills. I read it two years ago and it's called I Heart You, You Haunt Me. I read it in two hours it was really good. Also I saw someone suggested The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, that is an amazing book. It works your mind and it's one of those books that each person interprets differently. I saw DEFIANTLY read it!
ReplyDeleteMy apologies, I meant to type say not saw oops.
ReplyDeleteI've discovered a book called Nightshade and two other books in the trilogy called Wolfsbane and Bloodrose. I loved every word written and the plot is amazing. A wide range of vocabulary and a surprisingly strong main character. Same with the trilogy Rift. All by Andrea Cremer. :)
ReplyDeleteHey
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Misery by Stephen King, I LOVE his books!! - I want to start reading more V.C Andrews though!
ReplyDeleteHi Kalel :)
ReplyDeleteI started a book called Healing with the Fairies. It's spiritual I guess? I took a break from it when they talked about angels though because angels make me think of Christianity which I find traumatizing personally. I still want to read it though, for the fairy parts. It was really interesting, but I started another book and want to finish that one first, but I'm having a hard time finishing the book I just recently started reading.
I find most of the novels by Ellen Hopkins are really good! You finish them quickly and they're pretty dark. They all have an overall theme; Crank(meth), Tricks(prostitution), Burned(religion). I'm currently reading Tilt which doesn't really have an overall theme that much except teen relationships, which sounds ehh to me but it's pretty good.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Looking for Alaska by John Green was my first and only John Green novel I've read, but I read the entire thing in a day. I don't want to give it away but I basically had a huge fit when I got to a main twist and had to stop reading for a few hours because I wasn't emotionally ready. The Fault in Our Stars seems sad cause the cancer and all but, Looking for Alaska tho.....
ReplyDeleteI'm reading a book named: 'I don't want to kill you' I have only read two chapters and I already love the book! :)
ReplyDeleteI've read recently the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld, and the first book is AMAZING. I am currently reading the second one titled "PRETTIES" It is GREAT.
ReplyDelete~Asia Jalil
It's not a book but if you really love twisted things, you need to watch the skin I live in and martyrs,
ReplyDeletesoooo good!
It's always fun to read or watch your blogs/vlogs. I'm a book freak and yeah, I pick up everything you show your readers. Like you have done fashion shows and stuffs could you do a book show? What books you been reading or want to read and wich you recomend? Would be awesome to see and to get some insperation for the summer. Keep it up Kalel, your blog is great!
ReplyDeleteThe Grimm Legacy. It is a pretty good book
ReplyDelete"Legend" - Marie Lu
ReplyDeleteIt's a really good book and actually the first of a trilogy. So basically there's this girl named June who works for the "Republic" (USA) and her brother, Metias just recently got killed by a notorious criminal known as Day. Because of this, June wants to track Day down and make him pay for what he's done to her and the Republic. But after she catches Day, she also starts to uncover the dirty secrets that her country has been hiding, resulting in switching sides. Overall really great and lots of plot twists and surprising turns that will keep you from putting the book down!
The List by Siobhan Vivian
ReplyDeleteI got it for Easter, and I just couldn't put it down! After reading that, I tried to read again. It's not working out :( The other great book series I last read was Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carmen. Amazing series, and the videos that accompany the journals make it seem all the more real!
I've just read The Collector by John Fowles for my English class, but it was really engrossing and kinda messed up...But I'm also up to a Dance with Dragons :)
ReplyDeletewhat glasses are on the book? {sorry for my bad english}
ReplyDeleteMiss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is a good creepy/weird book that has really creepy photos c: definitely recommend!
ReplyDeleteI recently fell in love with John Green's books
ReplyDeleteI got TFIOS, because i'm gonna watch the movie when it's out...
One thing led t oanother i have Paper Towns and An Abundance of Katherines
(I wanted to get Looking for Alaska but my mom was like "get these for now and when you're finished you can get this one")
I'm also currently book searching as well ^^;
I'm looking for a new series to read, not really fussy about the topic, just as long as it's interesting, good writing. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteDo you watch American Horror Story? :) you would LOVE IT. its so good yet twisted, its like a psychological horror.
ReplyDeleteMust. Read. Fucked up books are the best
ReplyDeleteBetween Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteFallen, Torment and Passion by Lauren Kate
ReplyDeleteThey are seriously so good. I wasn't reading for a while, mostly because all the books I would choose would end up being a boring love story with vampires and witches(mainstream). But then my friend suggested the series and I fell in love. They are a love story, but it gets intense and really twisted. That's all I'm going to say. :) They were published in 2009, so you could get them for a real bargain!
i'm currently reading miss peregrine's home for peculiar children. i'm so excited to finish it and start the sequel because tim burton picked it up and is currently doing casting for it!
ReplyDeleteI recently finished reading the dollanganger series. It was so amazing and twisted..you can't take your eyes away. Apparently there was a tv movie of the flowers in the attic book released in January this year, I've yet to see it, but will probably watch it soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Kalel :3 So so in love with your blog (and posts) They are so fancy *^_^*

#MoreCatsOnTheBlog
I don't know if anyone pointed it out, but between perfectionists, you spelled "pique" wrongly Kalel. It's not "peek your interest", haha :p
ReplyDeleteHARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN! That is my favorite book which is why it's in all caps. It's been my fave not just in the series ever since I started it. I <3 it!
ReplyDelete#MakeAnthonyBeInTheVlogs I love you Kalel! You're awesome
I read this book last winter I think? Anyways itt was amazing. Its called Darlah - 172 hours in the moon, written by Johan Harstad. its about these three teenagers who win a trip to the moon, but weird shit starts happening there. I feel like you'd love it and highly recommend you check it out! Love your blog btw, its so inspiring :)
ReplyDeleteI recently read "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and I could not put it down! I'm like you and I love weird books, and this book just gets weirder all the time. It starts of seeming like a fairly normal book, but omg.. it is NOT!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your blog, style, persona etc. btw ^^
i Love it when she talks about the books shes into!!! im always looking for a new read!!! and im currently putting this one on my list...
ReplyDeleteWell, right now I'm reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, it's really funny so far, but I hear I'm going to cry, and by the sound of what's going to happen, I definitely will.
ReplyDeleteSome series I have enjoyed are the Maximum Ride(James Patterson) and Fablehaven(Brandon Mull). If you are into the more twisted books you should check out the Series of Unfortunate Events series by Lemony Snickett. It has a movie to go along with it, but the books are much better!
ReplyDeleteSome series I have enjoyed are the Maximum Ride by James Patterson and the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. If you are into more twisted books I would try out the Series of Unfortunate Events series by Lemony Snickett. There is a movie but they just squished all the books into one and the books are much better!
ReplyDeleteyou should try reading Hugo Cabret its sad yet sorta fast-paced and has amazing artwork btw i love you so much Kalel
ReplyDeleteI am a total fangirl, so I've read so many good books! but, giving you those would take too long, so here are some authors- James Patterson, Veronica Roth, Cassandra Clare, and John Green.
ReplyDeleteMy fav series is The Maze Runner, Divergent, And the Mortal Instruments. I wouldn't read The Fault in Our Stars if you don't want to cry, but another great John Green is Looking For Alaska.
