the devil's baby...

Rosemary's Baby, by Ira Levin

THIS BOOK. I've said it before, and I'll say it again- I love fucked up books. The weirder, the better. And THIS BOOK... well, it's out there. I'm sure many people have heard of Rosemary's Baby, it's a very popular movie from the 1960's. But if you don't know: It's about this woman, Rosemary, and... well... she somehow gets drugged and impregnated with the spawn of satan. That's all I'm gonna say. But if you're anything like me, that should peek your interest! hahaha :P

I've been reading A LOT lately, which makes me very happy, because I had been in a "reading drought" for MANY years. I used to read a book every single week, but then randomly something weird happened to me. I started reading so many books, but just felt they were... blah, and then would toss them aside; I couldn't finish a book for YEARS. The last reading spree I had was when I read the complete Dollanganger series in two weeks, and that was back in 2011!

But I've really been discovering some great reads lately! What's your favorite book that you've discovered recently? Let me know! *^_^*

  4. I just finished John Saul's "The Blackstone Chronicles." It was a six-book series, but they've compacted them into one large book. It's so good, and messed up. I definitely recommend it. The next book on my list is Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Both of them are asylum stories xD

  15. Well hello dear reader friend ^^,
It's always like that to me, I always cut myself completely from books and then when I see a friend reading, and I start again and find my passion for reading again!
All right, so, if you like as much spooky books to read, to give you the chills but yet with that quirkiness than i should definitely recommend "the great" Stephen King (with The Shinning), Coraline by Neil Gaiman, and finally some short stories from Edgar Allen Poe!
    -Enjoy !
PS: I know those books are pretty famous but personally gave me the spooks! ^-^

  23. I just finish the divergent series it was so good I read over a thousand pages in a little under a week which is a new record for me! I defently recommended it.( try to read the books before you watch the movies though)

  25. I'm currently reading The Book Thief and it's really good. The movie apparently is a good abduction so that's awesome. Also, Slaughterhouse-Five. It's kinda messed up and makes you think, so hopefully that peeks your interest because I feel like we have the same taste in books.

I have read just over 100 pages and I do like the story line and I can understand why people like it so much but I am not sure. I remember you saying in one of your vlogs that when you read the book, that you weren't too sure about it but then you kept reading and you were CRYING because it was so intense! So yeah I will keep reading because i can't wait to see how good it gets! Btw love your blog so much and you and Anthony's vlogs xx

  30. Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates

I'm currently studying for my Master degree in Literature, but still I had the same problem as you - I wasn't able to finish ONE book I read for fun. Couldn't imagine that would ever happen. The book that made me read again was The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. Just soo good!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I highly recommend you "The shadow of the wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón and "The princess bride" by William Goldman. They are definetely two of the best books I have ever read in my entire life. The first one is kind of mysterious and dark, but also extremely interesting. And the second one is just hilarious, even better than the film, which is already awesome. Hope you give them a try :)

  32. I think you would be interested in "Gone Girl." It's a really good read and it is twisted. Maybe not Rosemary's Baby twisted but still lol

  36. I can completely relate to that "reading drought" thing and I thought that this kind of thing only happened to me :O!!! For a full year I just lost interest in reading and I never knew why; then my bff who's always finding new stories to read asked me what books I've been into and that made me realize how long it's been. To get back into my reading-groove I picked up "The Fault in Our Stars" just to see what all the hype was about and I was really pleased/heartbroken after finishing it lol. But a book that you may have heard of that I would definitely suggest is "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman. I can not even describe how wonderful this book was! And especially if you enjoy twisted stories you'll love it! A little taste of the plot includes heartache, deception, demons, "God-like" demons who disguise themselves around mortals so they can fucking EAT them, other mythical beasts, and such a cryptic tale that's too shocking to believe, just go find this book NOW. The book you're suggesting sounds so interesting, I'll have to pick up a copy the next time I'm at my local bookstore :D I hope you've been having a lovely day, and as always have a blessed evening :)

  37. Personally, I fell in love with John Green's The Fault In Our Stars, and as a result I NEEDED to buy his book Looking For Alaska. I didn't get as emotional as I did when reading FioS, however it was still quite moving. As many have said, I've heard from people that The Book Thief, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Divergent are very popular. It really just depends on what genre and style of writing grabs your interest

  38. I loooved "The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer" series. It is so riveting and gets all your emotions swell. I recommend you try reading. The author is Mitchell Hodkin.

  39. I've been going through a little book phase too :) Right now I'm trying to find time to read Pride and Prejudice, Heaven is Here, Game of Thrones and the Help (thats a reread though). My favorite book is probably Jane Eyre- its so good! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've been really into a book called silver, it like a zombie apocalypse but instead of flesh eating dead people, they're flesh eating, half human, half robot/metal and it affects animals too... It's pretty interesting and I REALLY want to read Rosemary's Baby now!

    ReplyDelete
  41. This sounds like a great book! Right now, I'm reading "If I Stay," and it's really good. I think you'd like it! :)

  42. I agree with the Chuck Palahniuk recommendation! Invisible Monsters was definitely my favorite by him (that i've read so far) but all of his books are pretty strange. He writes in a very conversational tone, which I always liked - makes for a good, quick read.

I also would recommend House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It's definitely mysterious and super creepy but also quite challenging to read because each page is different from the next (sometimes you have to read in a circle, other times upside-down, sometimes there's one word on a page, or none). Either way it's quite lengthy and difficult to read as mentioned above so it takes a bit more dedication of time but I definitely recommend it!

    ReplyDelete
  43. If you love fucked up like you say you do then you should read ANY of Chuck Palahniuk's books, especially haunted, damned, doomed, invisible monsters, lullaby, fight club, so many to choose and they are just amazing.

  44. Hey Kalel :3 I really am exited to read this book! I got it like two hours ago :D... I have to ask, where did you all of your furniture or where do you like to buy furniture? You have just so much gorgeous kawaii stuff that i want in my room :D :3

  45. I am reading Splintered by A. G. Howard. It is about this girl named Alyssa who is the great great granddaughter of Alice Liddel. Because of Alice, the women in her family are cursed with insanity and she tries to break the curse by going to Wonderland. What I really like is how it sheds a different and weirder light on Wonderland.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The last book series that I have read was The Shapeshifters The Kiesha'Ra of the den of shadows by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. It is amazing!! I found the first book ten years ago in high school and I always go back to read it every year!

    ReplyDelete
  47. The Post Human trilogy by David Simpson. All three kinda have the same formula, but it's still an interesting read that makes you think about where we're headed with technology and the possible consequences of relying heavily on it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Right now I'm ready to pick up Specials by Scott Westerfeld, the series as a whole is really addicting to me. I've also heard The Merciless by Danielle Vega is really good from some different Booktubers. It doesn't come out until next month but it does have that gory/horror/satan sense to it, if you want to check it out? I'm actually looking forward to reading it as it sounds to be something I haven't read before. c:

  49. Try reading The Westing Game. It's a really nice mystery but it is fast paced and very interesting! You can also try solving the mystery along with the characters. I read it a year ago and it is my favourite book EVER.

P.S. I love your videos, they always make me feel better after a bad day. Thank you for everything(:

  50. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

its so odd and so well written <3 it forces you to keep guessing what actually happened and has just that sneaky bit of romance

  51. I've been reading a few of Rainbow Rowell's books recently and out of the two I've read, Eleanor and Park, and Fangirl, I can't decide which one I like better because both of them are really cute, funny, and freaking amazing. I also highly recommend the Consequences series by Aletha Romig. Never have I ever been so anxious and mind-fucked by a series before. Every book in that series is such sick brilliance. I might have to check out Rosemary's Baby now Kalel because I feel like we would like the same books. :)

  55. There's this book it's not super creepy or messed up but it gave me the chills. I read it two years ago and it's called I Heart You, You Haunt Me. I read it in two hours it was really good. Also I saw someone suggested The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, that is an amazing book. It works your mind and it's one of those books that each person interprets differently. I saw DEFIANTLY read it!

  57. I've discovered a book called Nightshade and two other books in the trilogy called Wolfsbane and Bloodrose. I loved every word written and the plot is amazing. A wide range of vocabulary and a surprisingly strong main character. Same with the trilogy Rift. All by Andrea Cremer. :)

  59. Hi Kalel :)

I started a book called Healing with the Fairies. It's spiritual I guess? I took a break from it when they talked about angels though because angels make me think of Christianity which I find traumatizing personally. I still want to read it though, for the fairy parts. It was really interesting, but I started another book and want to finish that one first, but I'm having a hard time finishing the book I just recently started reading.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I find most of the novels by Ellen Hopkins are really good! You finish them quickly and they're pretty dark. They all have an overall theme; Crank(meth), Tricks(prostitution), Burned(religion). I'm currently reading Tilt which doesn't really have an overall theme that much except teen relationships, which sounds ehh to me but it's pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Also, Looking for Alaska by John Green was my first and only John Green novel I've read, but I read the entire thing in a day. I don't want to give it away but I basically had a huge fit when I got to a main twist and had to stop reading for a few hours because I wasn't emotionally ready. The Fault in Our Stars seems sad cause the cancer and all but, Looking for Alaska tho.....

  67. "Legend" - Marie Lu
It's a really good book and actually the first of a trilogy. So basically there's this girl named June who works for the "Republic" (USA) and her brother, Metias just recently got killed by a notorious criminal known as Day. Because of this, June wants to track Day down and make him pay for what he's done to her and the Republic. But after she catches Day, she also starts to uncover the dirty secrets that her country has been hiding, resulting in switching sides. Overall really great and lots of plot twists and surprising turns that will keep you from putting the book down!

They are seriously so good. I wasn't reading for a while, mostly because all the books I would choose would end up being a boring love story with vampires and witches(mainstream). But then my friend suggested the series and I fell in love. They are a love story, but it gets intense and really twisted. That's all I'm going to say. :) They were published in 2009, so you could get them for a real bargain!
